Secret Venice Evening Walking Tour with Gondola Ride
- Duration: 2 Hours (approx.)
- Product code: CW_VE_SV_G_E_N
the Tour:
Just
across the Grand Canal from Venice’s busiest streets lies Dorsoduro, an
arty and much quieter district that’s overlooked by most tourists. This tour
lets you explore the highlights of this lesser-known area—including the
artistic troves of the Accademia Gallery and Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and
its historic gondola workshop and 16th-century hospital—and also take an
evening gondola ride. Accompanying you will be an expert, English-speaking
guide, whose knowledge illuminates the history and significance of these sites.
What We
Love About This Tour:
- Escaping tourist crowds to explore a different, and
fascinating, side of Venice - Learning about the legendary characters—including
Ernest Hemmingway and Peggy Guggenheim—who once haunted the bars and galleries
of Dorsoduro - Visiting one of the city’s last remaining gondola
workshops—and then taking an idyllic night ride in one of the boats
Testimonial:
“Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us an incredible
tour of Venice. She made it fun and interesting with her stories of the history
of the city. The gondola ride was a beautiful way to end our tour.”

Tour
Itinerary:
Once you’ve met with your
group at 6:30 p.m. at the Accademia di Belle Arte (Dorsoduro’s esteemed art
academy), your guide will lead you on an approximately 2-hour walking tour
through the fascinating sights of this district. Your route will vary, but will
take in Dorsoduro’s highlights—including the Gallerie dell’Accademia, which
houses one of the city’s richest troves of Renaissance art; and the Peggy
Guggenheim Collection, home to its most impressive modern-art collection.
You’ll also take in the grand, multi-domed Basilica di Santa Maria della
Salute; the district’s most famous haunted house, the 500-year-old Palazzo
Dario; and sights along the Zattere (which fronts the Giudecca Canal), like a 16th-century
hospital and the Squero di San Trovaso, a historic workshop where Venetian
gondolas are built and repaired.
Your walking tour will conclude with a 35-minute nighttime
ride in one of these iconic boats, through quiet back canals that make Venice
feel singularly romantic.
