What We Love About This Tour:

  • Walking along the outside path of the extraordinary, portrait-filled Vasari Corridor—the longtime secret Florentine passageway of the Medicis
  • Marveling at the art treasures of the Uffizi gallery, including works by Michelangelo, Giotto, Botticelli, and Leonardo da Vinci
  • Skipping entry lines to spend more time on exploration and art appreciation

Testimonial:

This guided tour of the Vasari corridor is a must when visiting Florence. Our tour guide gave us a fantastic tour of the amazing building and the art that it possessed—and more interestingly got us to participate and understand the art from the aspect of an art history student.”

Tour Itinerary:
Stop 1: Uffizi Gallery
Originally built in the 16th century to house Florence’s judiciary and administrative offices (or “uffizi,” in Italian), this grand gallery complex on the Piazza della Signoria today houses the city’s most stunning collection of Renaissance artworks. After meeting with your group at 3 p.m., you’ll get to see these art treasures, including paintings by Italian masters like Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio, Titian, and Giotto. You’ll also spy works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Goya, El Greco, and dozens of ancient Roman and Greek sculptures.

Stop 2: Vasari Corridor
After taking in the Uffizi’s artworks, your guide will next lead you outside the walls to one of the most fascinating secrets in Florence. Commissioned by the Medici family in 1564, he Vasari Corridor is a more-than-half-mile-long passageway that provided a covert conduit for the Medicis between their home (Palazzo Pitti) and the government offices on the other side of the Arno. Today, this passage is temporarily closed  —but you’ll get to follow its route from the outside of the portrait-filled hallways, above the Ponte Vecchio, and to the church of Santa Felicita before exiting at the Boboli Gardens.
