About the Tour:

Just 75 miles east of Venice sits the small, jewel-like medieval city of Verona—the setting of several of Shakespeare’s plays (including, most famously, Romeo and Juliet). On this all-day, small-group tour (with a maximum of 25 people), you’ll get to explore all of its main attractions: its cathedral, main squares and churches; its ancient arena; and even romantic spots like Juliet’s balcony. Accompanying you will be an expert, English-speaking guide, whose knowledge illuminates the history and significance of these sites.

What We Love About This Tour:
  • Marveling at sites depicted in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, including Juliet Capulet’s balcony and the house of Romeo Montague
  • Wandering through Verona’s lovely Duomo, with its Romanesque architecture and serene cloister
  • Skipping entry lines to spend more time exploring and sightseeing
  • Discovering the city’s dazzling area, whose 1st-century grandeur rivals The Colosseum’s

Tour Itinerary:

After meeting your group at 7:45 a.m. in the Santa Lucia Railway Station, you’ll board your train for the approximately 1 hour trip to Verona.  Once you’ve arrived, you’ll meet your guide and be led on an extensive walking tour through the winding medieval streets of this enchanting small city. Your route will vary, but will take in all the local highlights, including many locations portrayed in Romeo and Juliet (like Juliet’s balcony, Romeo’s family home, and the alley where Mercutio was killed); you’ll also visit Verona’s stunning 1st-century amphitheater (where operas are still performed today); the elegant Verona Duomo; the stately church of Sant’Anastasia; and the beautifully frescoed palaces of the Piazza delle Erbe. As well as guided exploration, you’ll also be given time to wander around the city and have lunch on your own; late in the afternoon, you’ll make the return trip to Venice by train.
