About the Tour:
Built mostly between the 12th and 16th centuries, the navigli, navigable man-made canals, once allowed boat transport between the most important parts of Milan. Though only a few remain today, the area around them has become one of the city’s liveliest hubs for eating, drinking, and socializing. This small-group tour (with a maximum of 15 people) lets you join in the fun—by sampling fine wines, cocktails, and local specialty dishes as you explore the area. Accompanying you will be an expert, English-speaking guide whose knowledge enriches every aspect of your experience.
You’ll start your tour with an evening glass of wine right near the largest and oldest of Milan’s still-existing canals, the Naviglio Grande. Afterward, your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the neighborhood that’s now known as Navigli—sharing the history of what was once a 30-mile-long network of canals that connected different parts of the city. As you wander among the area’s lively boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and live-music bars, you’ll make two more stops for refreshments at traditional enotecas (wine bars), where you’ll get to join locals over libations and aperitivi—local specialties like cured meats, cheeses, breads and other small-plate delicacies.
